What an incredible week this has been! I feel so fortunate to be studying in such a beautiful place, immersed in a new and very different culture. Heidelberg is so lovely. The old charm and beauty of the houses and buildings, along with the rolling hills seen in the background everywhere makes the city look so very picturesque. I have greatly enjoyed riding my bike everywhere and I love that there are bike lanes almost everywhere you go. It seems as though it is easier to lead a healthier lifestyle here because people have the option to safely walk or ride a bike in a lane basically anywhere and because most of the food is not imported from thousands of miles away. Although I have been eating a lot of delicious and rich German food, I have noticed that I am not gaining weight due to being so active on a daily basis.
Being frugal has been a big challenge for me. I feel guilty for spending so much money and at the same time I feel so glad that I am having the experiences I am having. If I can let go of that guilt, I will enjoy myself fully, so I am really going to try to work on that and work on being more frugal with my money in a way that does not take away from my experience.
I visited Salzburg this weekend and it was a very beautiful place. I missed one of my trains and got there a day late, but you live and you learn, right?
I am so excited for the weeks to come! What a whirlwind this week has been!
