Guten Tag!! I'm Jaclyn

I'm Jaclyn and I am proud to say that I will be a senior at Baldwin Wallace University in Cleveland.  I've been playing the piano since I was about 6 and it has always been a positive influence in my life.  That's one reason why I chose music therapy - I wanted to spread that joy I found in music to others.  You can hear me play at home or in churches or at school…even with my brothers complaining in the background.
I have always wanted to study abroad and I kept looking at opportunities through BW that related to music therapy - needless to say, I never found any.  Then my advisor told us about this program and I couldn't resist.  I studied German in high school and fell in love with the language.  I visited Germany a few years ago and I was hooked - I knew I had to get back and this was literally THE perfect opportunity.  I am able to combine my love for traveling to Germany and my future life adventure as a music therapist.
I'm looking forward to seeing the similarities and differences in music therapy styles as well as meeting new people and making those lifelong connections.  I'm ready to see the world and see it through music. Viel spaß!

Hi! I'm Hannah

Hello everyone!

My name is Hannah and I will be entering my senior year this fall at Baldwin Wallace University in Cleveland, OH.  I am a music therapy major and my primary instrument is the clarinet.  I am so excited for our upcoming trip to study-abroad in Germany.  I have always loved traveling and when I first heard of the opportunity from my music therapy professor to study this summer in Germany, I jumped on the band-wagon.  I have always loved studying and experiencing different cultures, and I am so excited to learn about music therapy in a different culture and how it compares to music therapy in the US.  I am looking forward to building relationships with the other music therapy students I will be traveling with and learning all about music therapy in Germany!

Hey, I'm Emily!

Hello everyone! My name is Emily and I am now a senior music therapy major at the University of Miami. I am a voice principal, and sing a range of styles from classical to musical theater. I love to travel and have always wanted to study abroad, but didn’t know it existed for music therapy…until now! I look forward to meeting new people, exploring new things, learning different MT perspectives, and overall, furthering my knowledge about wonderful field we are a part of. Looking forward to making memories in Germany!

Hello Everyone! -Max

Hi everyone! My name is Max Jacobs, and I’m currently a junior at Molloy College in Rockville Centre, NY studying music therapy.  My primary instrument is trumpet, and with it I’ve discovered a great love for jazz and it’s many different forms, especially Dixieland, cool jazz, and Afro-Cuban jazz.  I am also self-taught on the bass guitar; I play rock, funk, and anything with that has a groove!
I first heard about this program through my school’s Music Therapy Club, but I was notified right before the deadline, so I had to make a decision fast!   The opportunity presented by this trip, with so many incredible experiences, was too much to just glance at and pass up.  To be able to expand my understanding of music therapy on a global level as a means to heal and unite people, especially under a humanistic guise, is definitely something I believe this study abroad program can instill in those who participate.
I expect to have to my senses open wide while on this trip.  There is so much to absorb, between new education, new culture, new sights and scents and sounds, and waiting for me there, a new, fresh perspective on life.  I look forward for all that is there is to take in and experience while we stay in Germany and briefly in Austria.

Our departure day is arriving fast, and I can’t wait to begin!

Introduction: Program Director

By way of introduction...I'm Doug Keith, Professor of Music Therapy at Georgia College. I am directing a study-abroad program in Germany and Austria in June and July 2014. It's very exciting to have 12 students from many different universities attending, and I know they (and I!) will learn a lot.

We will spend three weeks in Heidelberg, at the Music Therapy department at the University of Applied Sciences, Heidelberg. After that, we will be traveling to the state of Nordrhein-Westfalen, where students will be placed with music therapists for a week. This is an exciting opportunity! After that, we head to Krems, Austria for the World Congress of the World Federation of Music Therapy.

Students will be introducing themselves here as well, so please check in frequently!
